OANDA Partners with Tokyo Sungoliath in Strategic Sports Sponsorship Move
  • OANDA Japan has partnered with top rugby team Tokyo Sungoliath in its first major sports sponsorship move.
  • The deal aims to boost brand visibility and align with Japan’s growing FX market, targeting rugby’s affluent and engaged fan base.
  • OANDA will use the partnership for outreach and investor education, in line with Japan’s financial advertising standards.

OANDA Japan has announced a new sponsorship deal with Tokyo Sungoliath, one of Japan Rugby League One’s leading teams, marking its first major foray into mainstream sports marketing in the region.

The partnership reflects OANDA’s broader strategy to strengthen its presence in Japan’s competitive FX trading space. As a long-standing multi-asset broker operating under several international licenses, OANDA sees this collaboration as a gateway to deeper market engagement and brand visibility.

Tokyo Sungoliath, owned by beverage giant Suntory, is a powerhouse in Japanese rugby. With a legacy dating back to 1980 and a strong fan base, including 50,000 attendees at the 2025 national final, the team provides access to a demographic that closely aligns with OANDA’s target audience: affluent, engaged and disciplined individuals.

Industry experts point out that the values associated with rugby, like trust, resilience and teamwork, all resonate well with financial brands looking to build credibility and professionalism. While terms of the deal were not disclosed, similar partnerships typically include kit branding, training ground signage, hospitality access, and community initiatives.

OANDA also plans to leverage this opportunity for educational outreach and investor awareness campaigns, aligning with Japan’s Financial Services Agency guidelines which emphasize transparency and investor protection.
