Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) has appointed Jalal Almarhoon as Managing Director and Chief Regional Representative for the Middle East, as the exchange group expands its regional footprint and issuer outreach.

Almarhoon joined HKEX on 10 February 2026 and will be based in the group’s recently opened Riyadh office. He reports to Johnson Chui, Head of Global Issuer Services.

In the role, Almarhoon will lead HKEX’s activities across Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle East, covering both primary and secondary markets. His remit includes promoting HKEX as a potential listing venue for regional issuers, while strengthening relationships with investors, regulators and key market stakeholders.

HKEX said Almarhoon will also work closely with teams in Hong Kong and across its global network to enhance connectivity between Hong Kong and Middle Eastern capital markets.

Almarhoon joins from BNP Paribas, where he served as Managing Director and Head of Strategic Corporate Coverage in Saudi Arabia. He previously spent nearly a decade at Société Générale in Saudi Arabia as Head of Corporate Coverage, and has held senior roles at Standard Chartered. His career includes experience across Riyadh, Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Amsterdam.
